Wilmington Handbell Ensemble plays 5-plus octaves of Schulmerich handbells and chimes accompanied by a variety of percussion and wind instruments. Most of the bells and chimes are owned by St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Wilmington, Delaware whose generosity affords us their use along with a rehearsal space.
Did you know???
The earliest handbells first appeared in England in the 17th century as practice bells for the tower bell ringers attempting to master the complicated permutations of change ringing. Seems like a warm pub and a pint of ale were more appealing incentives than the drafty old belfrey! Thinking about auditioning?
Wilmington Handbell Ensemble is always looking for talented new members. If you are an experienced ringer, proficient in ringing level 3+ music and up, let us hear from you. CONTACT US on the link above. Wilmington Handbell Ensemble is the only audition choir in Northern Delaware. Our mission is to spread the joy and challenge of playing handbells to ringers of all ages. From time to time, we offer workshops prior to our concerts to introduce the art of handbell ringing up close and personal with our audiences. CONTACT US on the link above for more information.
